A carpeted bedroom in New Malden costs £36 to clean. Living rooms are £43, a knocked-through lounge is £61, and each flight of stairs is £41. We use hot water extraction: heated solution is pushed deep into the pile and pulled straight back out by the same wand. It reaches the grit at the base of the fibres, which is where carpets actually wear.
| Room | Price |
|---|---|
| Bedroom | £36 |
| Living room | £43 |
| Through lounge | £61 |
| Stairs, per flight | £41 |
| Rug up to 3 sq m | £35 |
| Rug over 3 sq m | £51 |
One flight means one run of stairs between floors. The landing at the top is a separate line at £9, or £8 when it goes with a tenancy clean. Since one-off jobs have a £67 floor, one bedroom by itself gets charged £67. Most people add the stairs or a second room at that point.
How a room gets cleaned
We hoover before anything wet touches the carpet. Skip that and extraction just turns loose dust into mud. A pre-spray goes on next and is left for about ten minutes to loosen the soil, and any matted or heavily trodden patches get worked with a brush. Then the wand goes over in overlapping strokes. The final two passes use clean water only. Cheaper jobs leave that out, and the detergent left in the pile is sticky, so the carpet grabs dirt and can look worse within weeks.
Extensions moved the carpet upstairs
Nearly every interwar semi in New Malden has been extended at the back, and the new ground floor almost always gets engineered board or solid wood running right through. What carpet survives is on the stairs, the landing and in the bedrooms. A typical booking here is three bedrooms plus a flight, which comes to £149. The older terraces north of the railway can be different. Some still have their front and back rooms carpeted as one long space, and that is priced as a through lounge at £61.
A softened rinse for chalk water
Hard water and carpet don’t get on. Rinse a wool pile with untreated mains water from this chalk supply and the minerals stay in the fibres as it dries, leaving a greyish haze that feels faintly crisp underfoot. We soften the rinse water to stop that happening. On a mid-brown twist in a busy family house nobody would ever notice. On pale wool in one of the large houses towards Coombe it would show within days, and fixing it means cleaning the whole room again.
Why we skip the quick methods
| Method | Reaches | Drying |
|---|---|---|
| Hot water extraction (ours) | The whole depth of the pile | Walkable in about two hours, dry in five or six |
| Bonnet pad | Surface fibres | Under an hour |
| Dry powder | The upper part, and leaves residue | Straight away |
Bonnet pads and dry powders look fine as the cleaner walks out. They only touch the top of the pile, and the grit that cuts fibres sits down by the backing where neither can reach. Letting agents round here have caught on, and plenty now write hot water extraction into their check-out requirements.
Drying and furniture
Socks are fine on it after roughly two hours. Properly dry takes five or six, longer in damp weather with the windows shut. Stairs trap water at the back of each tread, so where we can we leave an air mover blowing on the flight. Heavy furniture should wait until the next day.
Getting the room ready
Clear small things off the floor. A quick hoover helps, although we will do it again ourselves. We’ll move a sofa or lift a bed, and anything that hates moisture, a piano or a heavy oak sideboard for example, is best taken out of the room altogether.
Pet accidents and stains
Pet accidents get an enzyme product that breaks the urine salts down rather than masking them, and it works well on fresh ones. Other marks get a treatment matched to whatever caused them, and we talk it through on the phone before you spend anything.
Booking carpets alongside other work
A lot of our carpet work rides along with something else. Agents ask for it at the end of a tenancy clean, or people add it to a one-off deep clean while the team is already in. Added to the tenancy clean, the rooms come down to £29 a bedroom and £36 a living room; alongside a deep clean they stay at the list price. In Berrylands, where families tend to stay for years, carpets are more often booked on their own.
Ring 020 8077 6366 with the number of rooms and we’ll price it on the call. Our full price list covers the rest, and the home page lists all five services.
Questions we get asked
How much is carpet cleaning in New Malden?
A bedroom is £36 and a living room £43. Through lounges are £61, stairs £41 per flight, and rugs cost £35 up to 3 square metres and £51 above that. The £67 one-off minimum applies, which only a single small room would hit.
When can the furniture go back?
Leave it overnight if you can. Wooden feet on wool that is still a little damp can stain it, and that mark may be worse than the original. If a chair really has to go back sooner, we put foil pads under it.
Will you move furniture?
Sofas, armchairs, coffee tables and beds, yes. Wardrobes, bunk beds and loaded bookcases stay where they are, so clearing those yourself gets you more cleaned floor.
Can hot water shrink a carpet?
Not a properly fitted one. The risk lies with old loose wool rugs and jute-backed carpet already coming off the gripper. We check the edges first and will leave a carpet alone if we think it won’t cope.
Can you get cat smells out?
Fresh accidents, usually. The enzyme treatment breaks the urine salts down instead of masking them. Where it has soaked past the backing into underlay or floorboards, the real fix is new underlay, and we will tell you that first.
